Fellow Co-operators across the Caribbean, the CCCU as the Regional Umbrella Body for Credit Unions, would like to express our solidarity to our brothers and sisters in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, who are right now being affected by the eruptions of the La Soufriere Volcano. We ask that we all join in solidarity with our fellow Co-operators across in St. Vincent and the Grenadines in this their time of challenge and truly live the words of the Credit Union Prayer, which states:
Where there is doubt, faith,
Where there is despair, hope,
Where there is darkness, light and
Where there is sadness, joy.
Our Brothers and sisters are now faced with a Volcanic Activity that has the potential to create severe social and economic upheavals. In this, their time of doubt, despair, darkness, and sadness, let us all by our collective prayers, inspire their faith, and be that beacon of hope and that light that will illuminate and return them to a state of cooperative joy that is characteristic of the resilience of the Caribbean Co-operative Credit Union Family.
We at the CCCU have already put our systems in place to provide that requisite support to our Member Affiliate across in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. We are in close collaboration with the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Co-operative Credit Union League Limited and stand ready to reach out with our co-operative hands of support to ensure that they can withstand this natural disaster and continue to provide the socio-economic support to their member credit unions that has been at the hallmark of the St. Vincent and Grenadines Co-operative Credit Union Movement.
We are also in communication with the World Council of Credit Unions, WOCCU, and will continue to closely monitor the situation and take guidance from the respective local and regional Disaster Management Agencies to determine at what point we can intervene and provide the requisite support to our fellow cooperators. We will continue to live the co-operative principle of cooperation among cooperators and work together with all our member affiliates across the region to ensure that our brothers and sisters in St. Vincent and the Grenadines receive all the necessary comfort that is humanly possible in the current circumstances.
