BRIEF BIOGRAPHY
The Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions (CCCU) express its heartfelt gratitude to Edward “Ned” Pitts for his contributions to the CCCU. Edward Pitts, a Belizean, was actively involved in the establishment of the Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions (CCCU), in 1972, and played a pivotal role in its development and growth.
He first served as Vice president on the CCCU’s first Board of Directors but later functioned as President from 1980 until 1985. Mr. Pitts’ contributions were characterized by his leadership, advocacy, and commitment to the principles of credit unionism across the Caribbean region.
Pitt’s legacy within the CCCU was marked by his dedication to improving the credit union movement in the Caribbean, fostering collaboration, and empowering communities through access to cooperative financial services. His work has had a lasting impact on the sector, with his formation of a number of credit unions in his native Belize, even as he helped to shape the path of other credit unions in the region.
In the international arena, Ned served for many years as Belize’s representative to the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) and was elected to the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) where he served for two years as secretary of the Executive Committee.
