
BRIEF BIOGRAPHY
The Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions (CCCU) recognizes and celebrates the valuable contributions of the late Reverend James Oswald Thorbourne, affectionately known as “Ossie” Thorbourne, to the CCCU.
He served as CCCU President from 1983 until his retirement in 1986, also representing the Confederation as a director at the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU). Rev. Thorbourne played a pivotal role in restructuring CUNA International into WOCCU and was recognized for his contributions with the prestigious “Distinguished Service Award” by WOCCU in June 2003.
A Jamaican by birth , His extensive experience in the Credit Union Movement in Jamaica included founding several credit unions and serving as President of the Jamaica Co-operative Credit Union League from 1953 until 1955. Rev. Thorbourne’s legacy continues to inspire and uplift the Jamaican and international Credit Union Movements.
