HAITI – After the Disaster

In January 2010, Haiti suffered a devastating earthquake during which thousands of persons lost their lives. Additionally, damage to commercial enterprises, housing and the general infrastructure was widespread.

As part of a worldwide Credit Union initiative, the Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions Development Foundation in response launched an appeal among regional credit unions, which realized over US$100,000.

These funds were channeled to credit unions and their members in Haiti, through the World Council of Credit Unions.

In April of 2010, the World Council led a delegation of Credit Union donors to Haiti, which included the General Manager of the CCCU. The team assessed the level extent to which the donations raised had assisted Credit Unions and their members as well as areas of future needs.
